  Chapter One

The crowd outside the club wrapped around the block, past the Chinese take-out place Reece had parked his bike in front of. With all the scantily dressed women waiting to get into Dry Ice, he figured he’d have his pick at a playmate for the evening.

The way Reece Evans thought, if there were this many hotties still standing outside, they must have an overabundance in the club. That was all right with him. He bypassed them all, making his way to the front gate quickly. Greeting the door guy, he slipped him a fifty and went inside, bee-lining to the bar.

The women around were sexy, slowly getting drunk and dancing, some simply checking him out. He knew he was attractive—most of his kind was. They’d never know what he was, never know he was a predator just below the surface, and that was fine with him. The Archon would indeed be pissed if he had some admirers that knew of his heritage.

It wasn’t like he was looking for a mate or Mrs. Right. Reece was looking for Mrs. Right Now, and damn if he wasn’t on the prowl for her tonight.

So many to choose from, he thought as he scanned the room, opening his senses to find exactly what he looked for. He got so many feelings, so many confirmations of what he wasn’t looking for, it was slightly discouraging. The crowd was thick with demons, some fey, which were fun if you found the right one, a wolf or two, which was odd as the town was indeed snake and cat territory, and an elemental or two. No cats tonight? Pity. That kitty the other night did indeed have claws. I should give her a call.

His scans stopped dead when he felt another snake in the club. Reece knew he was the only one of the upstate nest to frequent the club. As of right now, he was the only unmated male at the nest aside from Andy, but Andy Derelle was too ‘upscale country club’ to be slumming with him in a normal club. He relaxed a bit and thought. Rogue? Since it’s not one of ours, it’s gotta be rogue.

The last invited snake to the upstate nest was Chrissy, who was mated to Remy and expecting, despite Reece’s best attempt at getting her attention. He’d gotten a broken nose for his trouble and a seething hatred from her, which wasn’t anything new. Reece liked a certain kinda woman, and it was apparent Chrissy Stanford wasn’t the kind who liked him back.

He homed in on the snake. She was a small brunette dressed in leathers with a riding jacket stretched over her ample breasts, barely covering them. The zipper of the jacket was pulled up halfway, her cleavage creating a delightful feast for his eyes. He grabbed his beer and smiled, walking over to where the pretty pixie stood by the wall, her big brown eyes rimmed in kohl, her lips a sweet berry colour. His cock throbbed as he looked at her, licking his lips. His thoughts went from flirting to fucking, especially as he watched her purse her pouty lips.

He ended up next to her, put his arm up on the wall and smirked. “So should I buy you a drink? Or just take you in the back?”

She turned and looked up at him. Annoyance flickered briefly over her face. “Drink?” She looked him up and down, taking all of him in. Her eyes flashed with heat. “Well, I suppose my beer is running on empty.”

He grinned at her and passed her the beer he’d picked up on the way. “What do you know, same brand and everything? It’s fate, little one. So,” he said as he got closer to her and breathed in. “What’s your name?” She smelled richly of leather and faintly of gardenia, like the breeze that filtered through the windows at the compound in summer.

She took the beer and wrapped her lips around the top, sucking gently as she tipped it.

“Carmen, just Carmen. Don’t ever shorten it. It doesn’t work.” She took another swig of beer. “And don’t call me little…” She trailed off, distracted by something in the crowd. Turning her back on him, she started walking into the wall of people.

Little chit has some spice, doesn’t she? He followed after her, enjoying the way her ass moved in the tight leather pants. She was very sexy, but as a snake, it was her nature. Snake women could do things with their bodies, their tongues…

Reece groaned at the thought of what that pretty mouth would look like at the base of his cock, his length shoved down her throat, and he wanted nothing but. The trick was to get her to agree.

They had made it to the centre of the crowd, where the dance floor had less people, when he caught up to her. Grabbing her by the hips, he grinned, and ground his hard cock into her leather-clad ass. “Now, Carmen,” he hissed in her ear. “I did buy you that beer, Pet. Don’t I at least get a dance out of you?”

She leaned back into him, smiling lightly. “I suppose you did. Plus I just missed my ride.” She rubbed almost painfully against him before turning and raking herself along his body. “I’m just gonna have to find a new one, aren’t I?”

“I can give you a ride, love, though I would prefer it if I rode you.” His mouth went to her ear and nibbled. “So what’s a snake without a nest doing in town? I would have known if you were invited.” His whisper held venom then he chuckled. “Bad form to come where you’re not invited, but your secret’s safe with me.”

She smiled, “I’m sure we can arrange some sort of ride exchange. I’m very…flexible in that department,” she answered, avoiding his question. Her little h
ands slipped all over his body in time to the music.

“Most snakes are, Pet. Answer the question.” He moved his hands down and cupped her ass, holding her to his cock. She felt good, too good, and all he could think of was sinking deep into her.

“I’m not settling. I don’t settle… I’m only passing through.” She tensed her ass, her hips crushing hard into him. “I was never planning on staying. Like I said, I missed my ride.”

“Pity,” he said absently. “So where can I ride you? Or where do you need the ride to?”

She laughed then shrugged. “No clue… Next town over I guess, got no specific destination. Any recommendations?” Her voice was soft and breathy just beneath his ear.

“I was thinking the presidential suite at the Rosco.”

“Well, I could, but it would be bad form if I stayed, would it not? Me being uninvited and all,” she teased, keeping their bodies tightly together as they danced.

“Your secret is well and safe with me, Pet.” His body reacted to hers quickly, and he groaned into her ear. “I’d love to have this sweet ass of yours in my hands while I have you pressed against a wall.”

“And we have to go to a hotel for that? There are plenty of walls here, Darlin’.” Her hands slipped behind him, squeezing his ass.

“With a treasure like you? I’d fully intend to make a night of it. It’s not often I come across a woman I want to fuck ‘til dawn.”

She grabbed the back of his head, pulling him down to her moist lips. “Well, that is certainly something we both should take full advantage of. Kiss me.”

He smirked at her cute domination and let it slide. He kissed her, biting her bottom lip, his hands on the top edge of her pants. He slipped between her skin and the leather quickly, his arm contorting so that they stayed close. His fingers found her wet pussy as he thrust his tongue into her mouth and kissed her thoroughly, his touch stroking feather soft on her clit, teasing.

She moaned loudly into his mouth, though only he could hear it over the pounding of the music. Her hand squeezed him possessively through his pants, before pulling away. “Well, I’m sold.” She panted as his fingers still worked her. “Let me jump to the bathroom, then we’ll leave.” Her tongue flicked out to her lips. “You better live up to your all night long boast, or I’ll be sorely disappointed.”

“You ever had anaconda, baby? We don’t stop ‘til you’re passed out.” He winked and pressed her clit harder, playing circles, then withdrew his hand, slipping two fingers into his mouth.

She smiled slowly. “You better not. So how do I taste?”

He smirked and pulled her into a kiss, slipping his tongue, still thick with her taste, into her mouth.

Her small body crushed against him, as if memorising everything about him as she kissed him deeper. “Perfect,” she answered as she pulled away from him. “But I know how I taste. I was asking for your comment. Never mind, I’ll get your critique in the morning.” She smiled and turned to leave. “I’ll be right back.”

He smirked and licked his lips. “Don’t be too long. I’d hate to spank you.”

“Um, now that will be fun.” She winked then weaved off through the crowd until he lost sight of her.

Reece wasn’t sure how long he waited. The music was so loud, and all he could think of was sinking balls deep into the chit and making her scream. When he patted his jacket, he growled. His wallet and keys were gone, and he never even felt it. “Little bitch stole my bike!” he raged and stalked off to the door, asking the door man about a short busty brunette. When the doorman told him that he saw her leave not fifteen minutes before, Reece’s suspicions were confirmed. He left quickly, flipping out his cell phone. “Yeah, I want to report a stolen Ducati.”

The officer he spoke to knew Reece’s voice and finished the APB quickly. Reece hung up. Being as wealthy as he was and with a very exotic bike, one of two that was in the whole of the town, he knew they would find it quickly. Then she would be in a shit load of trouble. The thought of playing the player put him in a better mood, knowing that she would be caught. The question was when. He pulled out his cell phone once more and dialled Remy’s private number. “Rem? It’s Reece. Yeah I need a pick up... You’re not going to believe this.”

They never took the cuffs off in the cells, not like they did in the films. The cops pushed Carmen, none to gently, into the small empty cell. It had been a stupid move to take the bike, but she couldn’t help herself. It was recognisable, easily distinguished from any other form of transport she could have stolen. But she’d loved the challenge, and she loved bikes. It had been her consolation for passing up on sexy anaconda-man. God, how she’d wanted him, but she’d had to turn him down. Fucking her own species never led to good things.

Fucking most species never led to good things, but with snakes, nothing was certain. Especially nest snakes, trying to drag her back to their home. She wasn’t a nest player. Nests were always cramped to an outside observer, which she’d always been. Carmen was a restless soul, hated to be fixed in one place and now she was in jail.

“Fixed down, my ass,” she growled. “Could be getting my brains fucked outta me by a huge anaconda, but no, I’d much prefer to be sitting in a cell.”

She whined. There was no telling how long she would be stuck in here. It smelled of dampness and of humans. She hated jail. And here’s me without my get out free card. She slumped against the wall. In truth, she had no idea how she was getting out. She had no cash to speak of. The money from the snake’s wallet was already spent, and all her friends were—well, they were most likely in jail waiting on someone to bail them out. She would have to change soon. The thought of a six-foot viper writhing around in the cell looking for food would not work well with the guards.

She was fucked, well and truly, and once the cops ran her prints she would be even deeper in shit. She had no way of getting out, nothing, nobody. Well, not necessarily nobody. Luckily, she had her hands cuffed in front of herself, and she dipped her hand in her pocket and pulled out a card. His card. Reece Evans, whom she imagined to be one seriously pissed off man-snake. She had no idea why she’d kept the card as she ditched his wallet. But it looked like it would come in handy now. The last thing she needed was to get involved with nest snakes, but at this point, she was desperate.

The thought of her having another run in with him wasn’t even all that discouraging. She had wanted him. Besides, she could charm her way out of any situation one-on-one, and she was, after all, a snake. To her anything was better than this, being stuck in a cage with nothing to do other than wait for her ticking time bomb of a body to shift and show her for the freak she was.

She waited ‘til it was her time for the phone then dialled his number, hoping that it was him who picked up.

His voice was like velvet on the other end, thick with exhaustion. “This better be good. It’s almost three a.m.”

“I crashed your bike into a wall—and who cares if it’s three a.m.? We’re mostly nocturnal. And don’t go telling me you have a job to go to in the morning. It’ll change all of my perceptions of you.”

“Ah, the little snake. Crashed the Ducati, eh? Too much of a bike for you, Pet? Thank you for the call to let me know. If I find you, I’m going to take the repair bill outta your ass.” He stopped talking, the silence deafening. “How the fuck did you get my number?”

She rolled her eyes. “The bike’s fine and most likely sitting pretty at some impound. It was one hell of a ride, though. I found your number on a card in your wallet, and I’ve had a lot of time to sit and think about my actions. It was…rude of me to do as I did. I’m sorry.”

“Ah, an apology to a stranger. So what can I do for you?”

She smiled, twirling the phone cord around her fingers. “Well, that’s the fun part. I need you to bail me out. Seeing as how you’re getting the bike back, anyway. I even filled her up with gas. No harm, no foul. See?”

He chuckled on the other end. “And no
compensation for my pain and suffering? Tsk-tsk, Pet. So how much is bail?”

She shook her head. “I don’t know. It can’t be much, unless you’re pressing charges. However, that’s how it stands at the moment. I’m small and hardly pose any real danger to them. I amuse them, but if they get bored enough to run my prints, we’re fucked.”

“So you’re fucked, either way. Pity. You could have been fucked silly in the presidential suite’s hot tub had you not screwed me over. If I bail you out, what do I get?”

“The warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing that you’ve done the right thing?”

“I never do anything for free, Pet.”

“Well, now would be a great time to start,” she suggested.

  “No, I don’t think so.”

“It was worth a try. What would you like?”

“Giving me a choice? Um, I think I could get to like this. I’ll be there in a few. Keep your pants buttoned, at least until I arrive. We’ll discuss what I want then.” He hung up, and she was left with the dial tone.

She sighed and hung up the phone. She liked this less and less, but she was all out of choices. She was escorted back into the cell, and the heavy door slammed shut behind her. Whatever he wanted couldn’t be that bad, not as bad as staying in here until she shifted and ended up with the business end of a shovel.

Reece showed about twenty-five minutes after they’d hung up, decked out in jeans and a bomber jacket covering his black T-shirt. He was chatting with Officer Strickland, the arresting officer, when she emerged from the holding cell. Of all the people, she could have called, he hadn’t thought she would call him after she stole his bike and wallet. Now was a time for revenge. He couldn’t think of a better way than what he’d come up with on his trip to the precinct. He had refused to press charges, but when she was picked up, she had resisted arrest to the point of popping one officer in the jaw and kneeing the other in the balls.
